From Professional Sport to Property: Why Property Became the Natural Next Chapter

There was a time when my world revolved around an ice rink.

Split-second decisions. Controlled pressure. The difference between hesitation and instinct often measured in inches.

Today, the arena looks different, but the intensity has not changed.

I’m Brython Preece, founder of Sakura Property Collective. Before working as an estate agent in Dundee, I spent years competing as a professional athlete. Leaving sport meant stepping away from something that had shaped my identity for years. What I did not expect was to find another environment that demanded the same discipline, focus and calmness under pressure.

Property, as it turns out, is not so different.

Why Professional Sport and Property Have More in Common Than You Think

In sport, hesitation costs you.

In property, it can cost you the home you love.

Take too long to decide and the house is under offer. Act without clarity and you risk overpaying or accepting the wrong deal. Whether buying or selling property in Dundee or St Andrews, timing and composure matter more than most people realise.

Professional sport teaches you to make decisions with clarity, not emotion. That mindset translates directly into helping clients navigate competitive markets, property chains and high-stakes negotiations.

The scoreboard may look different, but the pressure is very real.

Moving to Dundee and Finding a New Home

When I first moved to Dundee six and a half years ago for a sporting opportunity, I assumed it would be temporary. Another contract. Another city.

But somewhere between early mornings at the rink, exploring the coastline and meeting a Broughty Ferry lass who would later become my wife, that changed.

Dundee stopped being a stopover. It became home.

Living here has given me a deep understanding of what makes different neighbourhoods tick. From quiet streets that rarely make it into the brochures to the subtle factors that influence property values, local knowledge matters. Especially in a market like Dundee, where community, timing and presentation can significantly impact results.

A Calmer Approach to Buying and Selling Property

Leaving professional sport meant finding a new environment that still felt meaningful and high performance. Property provides that, but the pressure now is not about personal results. It is about guiding people through one of the biggest financial and emotional decisions they will ever make.

At Sakura Property Collective, we believe buying and selling property in Dundee and St Andrews should feel considered, not chaotic. Strategic, not rushed.

There are still disappointments. There are still moments where timing changes everything.

But what remains constant is this. Staying calm, thinking clearly and acting with intent almost always produces stronger outcomes.

Estate Agency Without Ego

The property market does not always make sense. Even to professionals.

That is why honesty matters. Clients do not need ego or pressure. They need clarity, guidance and someone who will tell them the truth, even when it is uncomfortable.

You are the CEO of your move. Our role is to provide insight, structure and strategy so that when the timing feels right, you can move forward with confidence.

If you are considering buying or selling property in Dundee, St Andrews or the surrounding areas, we are always happy to have a conversation. No pressure. Just clarity.
